Tips & Information
In case of an Emergency, dial 9-1-1.
Winter Storm Preparedness:
Have an emergency kit ready with water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, and blankets. Keep alternative heat sources (like generators or space heaters) properly ventilated and at least three feet away from combustibles.
Generator Safety:
NEVER run a generator inside your home, garage, or near windows due to deadly carbon monoxide risk. Fuel generators outside and far away from doors and windows.
Resources:
Home Hardening:
Prepare your home by creating a defensible space. Clear vegetation and combustible debris from at least 10 meters (30 feet) around the structure. Ensure vents are covered with metal mesh to block embers.
Campfire Safety:
Before lighting a campfire, always check local restrictions. Ensure you have a water source nearby and completely extinguish the fire with water, stirring as you pour, until the ashes are cool to the touch.

Winter Holiday Safety:
Be vigilant with holiday lighting—use only **UL-listed** lights and check cords for fraying. Keep natural trees watered daily and away from heat sources. Consider using artificial trees near exits.
Halloween Safety:
Use battery-operated lights or LED candles in jack-o'-lanterns instead of real flames. Ensure costumes are light-colored or have reflective tape so trick-or-treaters are visible to vehicles.

General Home Safety:
Practice safe storage of flammable liquids. Ensure extension cords are only used for temporary power needs and are not run under rugs or through doorways where they can be damaged.
Generator Safety:
NEVER run a generator inside your home, garage, or near windows due to deadly carbon monoxide risk. Fuel generators outside and far away from doors and windows.
Outdoor Electrical Safety:
Before digging or installing outdoor lighting, check for underground utility lines. Never use outdoor electrical equipment in wet conditions unless it is specifically rated for outdoor use.
Accessibility:
If a resident has mobility challenges, ensure an alternate escape plan is in place that does not rely on stairs or windows, and ensure smoke alarms are connected to visual devices if necessary.

RV Fire Prevention:
When using propane appliances in your RV, ensure adequate ventilation. Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the vehicle before every trip. Never block the entryway or windows with gear.
